Trees should not be planted within the right-of-way. The size and growth rate of trees planted outside of the right-of-way should be taken into consideration to ensure they do not become a problem in the future. There is a helpful chart on our Vegetation Management page.
If trees or branches/limbs grow into the right-of-way, they will be trimmed during routine maintenance. While some low-growing plants and shrubs are acceptable options to plant in rights-of-way, caution should be used in the placement or location of said vegetation. If they impede entrance or access to lines, equipment, or structures, they may be removed by NEMEPA or its right-of-way maintenance crews.
